The Epaminondas character is a young African American boy, and the stories are based on folk tales from the Southern states of the U.S. Like Helen Bannerman's The Story of Little Black Sambo, which was originally written about a boy from Southern India but was later illustrated in many printings with stereotypes of African-Americans, the Epaminondas books have been criticised as having racist overtones and stereotypes.

Bad printing!I am extremely disappointed I this book, and I bought 2 of them as gifts! The last page (page 16) is misprinted. Unfortunately I didn't notice this until I gave it to my nephew after the return window.
This is a favorite story of mine with great childhood memories. I hope the seller will see this review and make it right. That is of they have any that are printed correctly.

Epaminondas and His Auntie Sara Cone Bryant Inez Hogan Books Reviews
I have been waiting for fifty nine years to read this book. I remember my mother reading it to me when I was 6 years old an I never forgot it. I just couldn't remember the name of it but I did remember the jist of the story. I am so happy to have found it after so long. I still wish it could have been in a hard back or something like litlte golden books instead of a paperback.
A classic that goes back generations. The main character is a little boy who "Ain't got de sense you was bon wid!", according to his auntie. The silly things he does with Auntie's wisdom makes this a funny and very entertaining book. Made a great classroom play when I was in second grade, too.
My granddaughter loved the story that I read from my own personal copy of the book, so I ordered another for her to take home. I won't give it to her, as the picture on the cover of the book has nothing to do with the character of the story. And why are there three more stories in the same book? Small children always look to the cover to tell something about the book and the story within. I guess I will give her my own book because she loved it so.
JUST AS I REMEMBERED THIS STORY WHEN MY NANA READ IT TO ME. I'M GOING TO READ IT TO MY 4 GRANDDAUGHTERS.. I AM THRILLED TO HAVE THIS CLASSIC, SWEET STORY IN MY HANDS!
Great Classic! Only a few pages long. However, this printing quality is very disappointing! Their are missing letters on the title page. Plus a page mostly blank with some random letter printer in the center. Not worth the price! Try another printing or go to a book store so you see what you are getting.
Epaminondas has been a family favorite since I read it as a young child. We still quote the book, especially about the pies.
This is a great story! It applies to my boys--great heart, but bad timing. I'd like to give it as wedding gifts to help wives understand husbands =).
I'd like to find a version with a little less African accent. It's fun to read, but not quite "socially acceptable" for today's world. It's also just a small paper back. I'd like a hard cover version, with color illustrations. But I love the
